MY STORY
There was a time in my life when I couldn’t stand the person I saw in the mirror. Every glance felt like a reminder of the weight I carried—not just physically, but emotionally. At over 80 kgs with a BMI of 30, I was 20 kgs overweight. My body mirrored how I felt inside: unconfident, embarrassed, ashamed, and lost. Buying new clothes became a dreaded activity. No matter how much I tried to mask my discomfort, deep down, I hated the person I was becoming.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The struggle wasn’t limited to my body. I had a prediabetic diagnosis looming over me, and the stress only added to my chronic anxiety and sleepless nights. Panic attacks became a regular occurrence, and thoughts of suicide crept into my mind as I wrestled with a lack of self-worth, purpose, and joy. I was walking aimlessly through life, stuck in a loop of negative self-talk and unhealthy habits. My days felt like a script someone else had written: finish school, get a high-paying job, be the so-called ‘good boy’ everyone expected. I became an actuary—a career that looked impressive on paper but left me feeling empty.

Between 2016 and 2020, I dipped my toes into self-improvement, listening to podcasts by Jay Shetty and Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, and reading books sporadically. These were seeds of change, but they hadn’t yet taken root. It wasn’t until late 2019 that a revelation shook me: most of my beliefs, actions, and decisions were conditioned by what I had absorbed unconsciously over the years. I had lived on autopilot, letting societal expectations shape me.

In 2020, I couldn’t ignore the nagging voice in my head any longer: “You need to lose weight. Enough is enough.” I realized that I’d have to start addressing not only the physical toll on my body but the mental and emotional barriers holding me back. The image in the mirror was no longer something to avoid; it became my wake-up call.
​
That year, I stumbled upon intermittent fasting. At first, it was a mere experiment to see if I could reverse my health trajectory. But it quickly became a transformative tool. I started small with 12-hour fasts, gradually extending to 23-hour fasts over time. Consistency became my mantra. I stopped obsessing over instant results and instead focused on the process. Alongside fasting, I incorporated home workouts—climbing stairs, doing pushups and pullups to build strength and muscle. Despite the restrictions of Covid-19 lockdown, I stayed disciplined.

By November 2020, I had dropped over 20 kgs, going from 80+ kgs to 60 kgs in just nine months. The changes weren’t limited to my waistline. As my body transformed, so did my mind. The panic attacks lessened, my sleep improved, and I found myself reconnecting with a sense of purpose. I began to see the value in who I was, not just in what I looked like. The consistent effort over time had given me something more powerful than a leaner body—it gave me self-respect, confidence, and the courage to chart my own path.

Looking back, my journey wasn’t about a magic diet or a quick fix. It was about reclaiming control over my life. I learned to listen to my own needs, break free from the autopilot, and reshape the beliefs that had kept me stuck. Today, I use my story to help others navigate their health and mindset transformations. I know what it’s like to feel lost, overwhelmed, and unsure where to start. I also know that with the right tools, consistency, and support, it’s possible to turn things around.
